The Digital Dan
   (Audio - 8.5)

This source was kindly donated as a CDR clone of the master tapes along with the title. Generally DR doesn't do too many productions like this, but it is a fantastic show that has had an interesting life associated with it. This is again one of those often hoarded shows that people would dangle like a carrot in front of a horse, as a teaser. It was considered taboo in some circles to even mention that the show existed. Someone even went so far as to circulated a screwed up version of the 1st Gen on CDR complete with tons of digital errors. Thus, we gave up on this show a long time ago cause of all the extra baggage associated with it. But now there is a new source, complete without digital errors and the only cuts are in "The Trees", "Hemispheres", and "2112" where the C60 cassettes had tape flips. The cuts are noticeable, but not severe.

The show itself sounds great. The first 30min or so sound kind of muffled in comparison to the other great Hemispheres audience recordings, Oslo '79 and Vancouver '78. But it is the remainder of the show that really shines. It is better than Vancouver '78 and on par with Oslo '79. The main difference with Oslo is that this recording has great bottom end, but doesn't have the upper end clarity of the Oslo show. Either way, it is a truly amazing sounding show. And speaking of performance, this is one of the best performances of the tour in my opinion. The band is just electric tonight, Alex sounds incredible, and it nearly gives you goosebumps just listening. Once again thanks to the diligent efforts from a couple of collectors, this show can now be enjoyed by all. As with all Digital Reproductions releases, this is for free trade and blank media trade only. Please do not buy, sell or distribute for profit. Help keep the spirit of trading alive. If you see this show being sold on E-bay, kindly inform the bidders they can have the show for free.    (2002-06-28)

This show - recording is right up there with the Oslo '79 offering. In the top 5 AUD's of the tour. Get it, you won't be disappointed.   (2007-01-27)

I'm not a big fan of this recording, though it sounds nice, I just don't really like the hiss that much. The warm analog feel is great though, a full sound. Overall, its a good show, I recommend it.   (2008-11-17)
