The Digital Dan
   (Audio - 9)

This is the second installment in the "Southern Trails" line. This time we catch the boys in Atlanta for some typical southern hospitality. There were a lot of choices for sources to use for this show, about 7 of them at last count. This particular release is comprised of the 3 DAT sources from this night. Each one had its own drawbacks and advantages, so a multi-track mix and matrix was the best option to yield a great sounding show. One of the advantages of a matrixed show is that it will sound much fuller with a wider soundstage than most single source recordings. It is no exception here. The sound quality is quite nice and each member of the band is well represented in the mix. There is plenty of bass and the high end is crisp and clean. Don't forget to play this recording at a healthy volume, the louder you play this show, the more detail you will hear. There is a slight, short bit of digi-noise at the beginning of "The Pass". Other than that there are no cuts, mars nor detractions in the show.

As with the previous Southern Trials edition, this edition also has a DTS version. A total of 5 sources were used for the 5.1 DTS channels based on where each taper was located in the venue. The DTS version of this show really captures the ambience of the venue and the spirit of the performance like no stereo recording can. The channels themselves were adjusted for matching SPL (sound pressure level). Of the 5 Digital Reproductions DTS-CD releases done thus far, this is by far and away the best sounding and best utilization of 5.1 surround sound recording. Thanks to the tapers for providing us these great sources to work on. To play back this recording you will need a system capable of decoding DTS signal, which includes just about every DVD player made over the last 4 years. Any system that can playback the DTS soundtrack of a movie can play this recording. The show itself can be copied just like another other audio CD. As with all Digital Reproductions releases, this is for free trade and blank media trade only. Please do not buy, sell, or distribute for profit. Help keep the spirit of trading alive and well.
