Production Notes A little bit of background on this show. Many (many!) months ago Tammeh sent me several VHS tapes that she had received in the mail from RT (our illustrious Rush hub owner). She asked me if I would be interested in transferring them to DVD. Of course but with all the other SMP releases going on, they were put into a box and while not forgotten about, they were put on the preverbal "back burner." A few months ago I finally got around to watching them and was presently surprised by a tape labeled "February 7, 1994", the show you were about to watch. While Counterpart videos aren’t particular rare, this one had a nice sound too it. It also was a mix of 2 camera angles; a left and a center. That got my attention. There were a few quarks though to the audio. A quick check of this date found a fine audio release from Rush-Signals titled the “Sounds of Science". At first I started to just fill in the “quarks” of the video's audio with the Sounds of Science audio but after a while it seemed that a matrix of the two would do the most good thus this SMP release contains the audio from both the video and the Sounds of Silence in a matrix. Hope you enjoy it. And speaking of the matrix, This audio from the video was an analog source while the Sounds of Silence was a digital (DAT) source. If you've never tried to sync an analog and a digital audio source to an analog video source......well there are better ways to kill time. While the sync isn't perfect, it's about as close as humanly possible without totally pulling out what is left of my hair! Besides, we end up with some really neat stereo effects this way. The video itself is nice. It is a little rough in the beginning but eventually it settles down after a few songs. The second camera angle kicks in about 15 minutes or so into the show. Alas this is a 2nd gen tape (I think) so there is some gen loss but it's not all that bad. Hopefully someday a lower gen or dare we hope, the masters come out of the closet for all of us to enjoy. Thanks must go out to RT for the loan of the tape, Tammeh who sent me the tape to begin with, Rush-Signals for the Sounds of Science, Trader_Al for assuring me that my fears that Rush-Signals would be upset if I used the Sounds of Science were groundless and of course DV8 Studios for the fine artwork. This recording was produced by fans, for fans and is never to be sold. If you like this recording, support the artists and purchase their official releases! Released February 2006 on The Alien Shore - As is the Simple Man norm, this show will be traded freely to all comers.    (2006-03-02)
