The Digital Dan
   (Audio - 9)

First Night: This matrix of two digital sources was brought to you by RusherMan and the ModernDayWarrior. Both tapers had a great first night at the Radio City Music Hall. As Geddy states, it had been 20 years since they had last played here (actually, September 18-23, 1983). Both sources complimented each other very well. The bass is strong and detailed, Neil's drums have rarely sounded better on an audience recording. The high end is also nice and detailed. The mix is essentially the raw matrix with a few minor tweaks. Honestly, this is about as solid and atmospheric audience recording as you are likely to hear. The louder the playback, the more details that come shining through. Sounds good in the car, on a home stereo and over your headphones. Highly recommended.

Second Night:The source used for this recording was brought to you by RusherMan. There was minimal remixing, some minor tweaks to the EQ and some hand claps were removed from the between song spaces. No "mad clappers" during the songs, thankfully. This show does require a lot of volume if all the details are to be pulled out. Since it was mixed on a professionally balanced system, the recording can be played loud on any system type without any undesirable effects. Artwork for this project was done by Daneck, an excellent design and concept once again.

About DVD-Audio: DVD-Audio, or DVD-a for short, is an advanced, high resolution audio playback format. It has a couple of distinct advantages over normal red book cd audio. One, it can accept a large variety of audio formats. In addition to 16bit/44.1khz cd audio, it supports other standard formats like 16/48, 24/96 and 24/192. Obvioulsy the higher the audio resolution, the more detailed sounding the show. Since all three sources were 16/48, the native recording resolution of the DAT audio's could be maintained. The second advantage of DVD-a is the extended play lengths. Because of DVD's 4.7gb capacity, both 3hr plus Rush performances can fit on the same disc. There are no breaks in the first night or the second night. The shows play straight through from beginning to end with no interuption. So listeners get 6 hours of continuous music. Three, DVD-a supports uncompressed, full bandwidth 5.1 surround sound audio.

Trading DVD-a Discs: Copy the RAR files to a Windows NTFS hard drive with atleast 4.5gb of free space. Use the MD5 Checksum to verify the RAR files. Use RAR to decompress the "Part01" RAR file and it will decompress all the other RAR files into the original DVD-a ISO Image. Use the MD5 Checsum to verify the integrity of the ISO image file. Load the ISO image into a DVD recording application such as Nero Burning ROM to create a DVD-a playable disc.

Warning: DVD-Audio discs can only be played on a supported DVD-Audio player. This disc will not play on CD players or regular DVD Players. Look for DVD Players with the DVD-Audio logo, those are the players this disc was designed.
