Decent recording from the final North American show of the R30 tour. Slightly better sound than the RCMH shows. But 30 Years Strong is still the best R30 recording out there in my opinion. (2004-10-14)

Morning Toronto. Leave our luggages in Hotel, we went to Ontario Place to make a
preliminary examination. Got ride the Bathurst line street car, we leave the
train at the entrance of Exhibition Place. By about 10 mins walking, we arrived
at the amphitheatre and ask the box office guy about ticket availability but he
said they have no extra. It was definitely the sold out show !
After checking the venue, we got back to the hotel and then go to the last
shopping. In the evening, went to Ontario Place again. At 19:25, sat our seats
of final show for us. My seat was Block 101 13th Row, just center back of the
block. Oh well, this time we did not know the TO show
would start 19:30... thought it would be 20:00 like the other shows... but
fortunately I did have two 120 mins DAT tapes (normally I have one 90 mins for
1st set and one 120 mins for 2nd set) and had started to record right after
sitting down, so could caught the entire show which started at 19:45. It was
really lucky thing !
The sound was BRILLIANT. Although it was an amphitheatre show, the sound
separation was the best in the four shows we attended and due to the closeness
to the stage, the bass sound was incredible. But...although I checked the input
level during the show sometimes, the recording level was slightly high and a bit
distorted sometimes. It's very unfortunate thing and my fault, but the PA crew
did excellent job so the recorded sound balance made sweet (for tiny ECM-717 mic).
When the remastering process, I tried to avoid that distortion but could not
remove so IF there would be no other better recording, I will ask some other
experienced guys to remaster again (who wants ?).
The performance was excellent again. but you could listen to a rare misplay on
Drum Solo. Due to the miss-hitting of the electric pad (or something... I do not
know the detail of how to playback the big band samples at the last section) the
samples and drum solo were out of sync. Also you should listen to the funniest
rant on La Villa. oink oink !!
On the other hand, the crowd was VERY quiet. I know TO audience behave meekly
but very disappointed about many guys left their seats during boys played newer
tunes... you MUST DRINK BEER during the show !? can't get it. Here is block 100.
Not lawn !
But because most ppl well behaved, I could take many good quality pics during
the show. Security said nothing about camera flash so it was so easy to. You
could see some of the best shots on the artworks for "Part 4".
On noon of 23rd, we left TO and arrived to Narita Airport after 12 hours flight.
Then drove a car and got home in 24th evening. Thus, our trip was over.

Oh well, unfortunately you WILL listen to my unofficial chorus on some
particular songs (especially on Animate, Earthshine, Secret Touch and Resist).
If you do not like this kind of recording, please try R30 Project series :-D
(And the ones will be from ninjadave soon after these !)
Anyways, this is quite nice Theater-Arena-Amphitheater combo recordings I
believe. And this is my and my girlfriend's memory and the series title "Keep on
Riding" was taken from Ghost Rider lyric for intended our trip. Hope make sense! (2004-08-30)
